Ring in the holidays with this fig and thyme flavored Christmas”Thyme” Is Here Cocktail!
This little beauty was inspired by a recent date night with my main man.
Dom and I were able to steal away a couple weekends ago… We tucked Dolce into her plush and cozy new car seat and up to snowy Lake Placid we went.
We arrived to Snowshoe Lodge relatively late Friday evening. And rather than take time to primp for a quick dinner out, we decided to hit our favorite grocery store and grab some weekend necessities (and when I say we, I mean Dom). Hey – someone had to stay back and play with Dolce. 😉
Anyway, if someone had offered to pay me a million bucks to say what Dom would bring back for dinner, I’d be a million dollars richer right now. And you know what? I’m willing to bet that many of you know what he brought back, too!
Yep, a ready-made pepperoni pizza to throw in the oven. I have to admit – it was one of the best pizzas we’ve had in a while. True story.
So Saturday, though blustery and as cold as a reindeer’s ear, we went for a run around Mirror Lake. A lake I always believed to be (at least) three miles around, only to find out, after achieving what I thought was my best 5K time ever, that the lake is only 2.6 miles around!
So, maybe not my best clocked time – but it was a wonderful time, none the less. My music cut out about half way through – and where I might normally be upset about that – I was blown away by the power of the quiet to keep me entertained and, believe it or not, distracted enough to maintain my pace until the end. The snow was falling so slowly, so deliberately, as if each flake knew exactly where it wanted to land; I could almost count them as they floated down, and coupled with the hushed winter sounds, I made it to the end pretty comfortably. Usually upbeat music helps me to plow through. Not this time. The quiet did. Oh, and I guess the shorter distance might have something to do with it. Hahahaha.
Once we finished, we (finally) primped and hit the town. Our restaurant of choice? Lake Placid Pub & Brewery. Our meal of choice? Steak sandwiches with the works. Our cocktail of choice? Fig inspired Moscow Mules.
We love our Moscow Mules but we’ve never had them made with fig vodka and boy did we love them! So I had no choice but to try my hand at creating a cocktail inspired by our delicious find; one that included fig vodka and ginger beer. I knew I didn’t want a Mule, so I did a little sleuthing and discovered that a fabulous complement to fig is thyme. Bingo!
My friend Joe at our local liquor store hooked me up good with both the fig vodka and thyme liqueur. We were on our way to Christmas”Thyme” Is Here. (<—–This sweet and seasonal name comes compliments of Luc! Oh, and the video, too – but you knew that!)
At first I planned to use only the vodka, thyme and ginger, but after my initial taste-test, I knew immediately that a splash of bitters (in the form of Campari) would finish the drink perfectly in both flavor and color. I can’t handle that blush.
Holiday cocktail of choice? You bet!
Please enjoy the drink and the video, my friends!
Salute!

Hi Annie, what a lovely story! It’s so nice to enjoy a quiet weekend from time to time, isn’t it! I finally got myself to look up Lake Placid and the Mirror Lake on the internet and on google maps. This really looks like an adorable place, like the perfect retreat! Wishing you many more weekends like this one, Annie!
And the drink, it’s absolutely wonderful! I’ve never tried fig vodka or thyme liqueur, but now I’ve got a reason to go out and buy some! It’ll remind me of you and Lake Placid, when I serve it at Christmas! Happy, happy holidays, my dear!
All the best, Simone

What a fun drink, Annie – such a gorgeous color. I have tons of thyme growing in the garden and am always looking for ways to use it – never thought of adding it to a drink! Love the video too. Have a great weekend.

I love everything about this post — the words, the snow setting, the recipe, and the fun video! I was recently gifted a thyme plant and think using it in a cocktail is brilliant. Enjoy your family, Annie! xo

Waaaait wait wait. You took a mini vacation with the hubs and you went running… IN THE SNOW? Girl, you have much more will power than me! I would have gladly eaten the pizza, drank all the cocktails and played with Dolce (mine or yours lol), but run? PASS. Don’t get me wrong, I love to work out, but for some reason when we go away I can’t muster any motivation to do anything other than lazily lounge about. 🙂 I am obsessing over this cocktail, mi-dear!!! First of all, the name is amazing. Second, FIG Vodka? Third, THYME liqueur?! AND ginger beer? STOP IT. I need a carafe of this beauty immediately! Pinned! Cheers, friend! xo
Annie says
Heheheeh! We did! But it was great! I promise!! 🙂 So happy you’re obsessing over this cocktail! I am too! Once I knew that Fig Vodka existed, I was like – I need to have that on the shelf…and I need to get creatin’, quick!! Have a great weekend, my friend! Cheers! xo

I love how Dom spoils you Annie.. and I think it’s the sweetest thing ever! Reading your post made me smile so many times. From the quiet of your music giving out, to the exhilaration of being in the beauty of nature. Then to enjoy an easy bake pizza (I mean we all need a break) and then whipping up a fabulous cocktail! The BEST of times! Your writing reminds me of the time Rob and I were in Monterey Bay, CA. We’d spent the entire day out hiking, playing, exploring. When we got back to our little air bnb, neither one of us wanted to get cleaned up and go out.. we were exhausted! So Rob went to Trader Joes and picked up a frozen pizza. Now, I’m certain it wasn’t as good as your pizza – but it was a ‘good’ pizza! Thank you for sharing this fabulous cocktail recipe and YAY on the video! Love the snow! xo
Annie says
Hahaha! I know…I’m a lucky lady! Weekends like this are so special! We’ve been to Monterey Bay – gosh, many many years ago…boy, how beautiful is that place! I’m happy to see we’re not the only couple who will opt out of dinner out for staying cozy inside with a decent tasting pizza! So happy you liked the post and the cocktail, my friend! Cheers! xo

Yep, I’m already thinking about other drinks I can make using it! So good! You know how we feel about LP! Never a bad time! Thanks, dear!
Gayle @ Pumpkin 'N Spice says
What a gorgeous cocktail, Annie! I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect drink to serve on New Year’s Eve, and this just might me it. Love the thyme in here!
Annie says
Thank you, Gayle! The thyme liqueur is incredible! Enjoy, my dear!
Dawn @ Girl Heart Food says
Luc is on a roll, Annie! The old fashioned inspired cream cheese and now the name for this delicious cocktail! How perfect! And fabulous job on the video! Pinned! So, congrats on going for a run! Brrrr…..running in the cold? Now, that’s certainly a task with all the cold air going into your lungs. I would imagine that it was super nice and relaxing, but I think I would have rather to take an easy stroll and save the running for the treadmill, lol 😀 Premade pizza? You know what? Sometimes those things hit the spot perfectly, especially when you just get to sit back and enjoy each other’s company, right? P.S. We had snow TWICE this week! Not nice for getting around, but certainly Christmassy 🙂 Have a wonderful weekend, my friend! XO
Annie says
She sure is! We’re having so much fun together! So, believe it or not, once you get running, it doesn’t take long to feel warm. I know, I was surprised too! You just have to make sure to wear the proper clothing that are made of moisture wicking material! I love it. And that day was particularly gorgeous! You know, when you’re that hungry – almost anything will do, but that pizza was truly delish! haha! So happy you like the drink! Thanks, my friend! Cheers! XO
